What will my child learn?

We have a broad curriculum suitable for children from Ages 7 all the way up to the end of post primary.

Children who attend our academy will be assessed based on previous experience and goals and then assigned a suitable curriculum. As they make progress they can then move on to more advanced topics depending on what they are interested in.

Our curriculum covers all the the following, with new classes added all of the time to keep pace with advances in technology.

Students will start by learning the structure and syntax of simple programs, they will then tackle more advanced topics.

Unity powers over half of the world’s games. Using the Unity Game Design Engine with C# programming in Visual Studio, students create games. More advanced students will learn about augmented reality.

Minecraft Java

faq

My child has no experience. Will it be hard for them to ramp up?

No experience is required. We accommodate all types of students and experience levels.

My child has done some coding before. Will they have to start from the very beginning?

No. We offer a free trial session and during that session our instructor will talk to your child and determine what level they should start at.

How can I monitor my child's progress?

Your child will be given an account on our learning management system. You as the parent will be given access too. You will be able to login and see how they are progressing and see the instructors comments.

How do the make-up classes work?

We realise that life happens and that your child might not always be able to attend their regular class slots, maybe you are going on holidays or that something else came up. Thats no problem - just let us know in advance by email and then your child can join another session at a future time.

How many sessions a week can we have?

You can come as little as once a week or up to 3 times a week. This way you can suit your timetable and budget. Obviously the more you come the quicker your child will progress.

I will away for summer. Can I pause my child's classes while on holidays?

Yes, absolutely, we all love summer. If you want to pause your child's classes for a month or two of summer, please send us an email with your child's name, the months that you would like to pause, and an expected date that you would come back. We will pause your child's payment and classes for the duration that you request. We do request that you use up your makeup classes the month before.

My kids already have a lot of screen time. Why should I expose them to more?

You’re likely opposed to screen time because it’s seen as useless and purely a form of entertainment. That’s understandable. Screen time at TechCreate is productive, where students use technology to develop technical expertise, amongst other skills such as teamwork, problem solving, and more. Kids are truly enjoying and taking pride in their work, while learning valuable skills they aren’t getting anywhere else. We’re contributing to your child adopting better habits through building new games and apps, which will set them up for success down the road.

Does my child need to bring their own laptop?

If your child has access to a laptop then please bring it with you to class. If not then we have a few spare laptops you can use for the duration of the class. We also ask you to please bring headphones for the class as there will be times when it will help your child to focus for part of the class.

My child or other family member has to quarantine for Covid what can I do?

If your child or other close family member has Covid 19 symptoms we ask that they please don't attend class. After they are better they can come to an extra class to make up for the missed class.
